WHY TAKE A GAP YEAR?

What do Universities think about pre-University gap years?

“Often a gap year allows an individual to develop in a way that enhances their experience and achievements at university.”
Dr Tim Westlake, Manchester University.

“A well planned gap year can prove invaluable, enabling participants to gain valuable skills and experience to add value to their CV.” Paula Walters, City University.

What do employers say about gap years both pre and post University?

We place a huge value on gap years, which very often help candidates to distinguish themselves from the competition.”
Keith Dugdale, KPMG.

“Employers are always looking for new talent with experience in their chosen fields, and undertaking a gap year which builds your experience, skills and perceptions of companies and the media industry, in my opinion, is one of the good ways of making yourself more employable in the future”.
Jo Taylor, Talent Manager – Channel 4.

It is a very competitive world. While most people now have degrees, a gap year helps you stay ahead.

Either during or after University or the traditional pre-University, quality gap programs typically offer life skills and increasingly popular, career specific skills as well as an adventure of a life time. Over 37,000 (source: UCAS) students defer entry to University. Of students that gain practical experience during or post university, 70% are more likely to earn £2,000 + p.a. more than those who gain no experience (source One Poll/Gapforce).

"67% of employers said they would be more likely to employ someone with gap year experience than without" – source One Poll/Gapforce.
